Open For Business: Otaku Oasis

The worlds of Japanese anime and ice-cream come together at Otaku Oasis, an ice-cream parlour in Kelantan Road, off Jalan Besar.

The Japanese word "otaku" refers to people who have obsessive interests, particularly in anime or manga. In this case, Otaku Oasis' owner Raymond Lim is a huge anime fan and the shop houses his collection.

Gelato and sorbets are made in-house and flavours are changed weekly. Flavours include Grand Marnier with fresh orange juice, satsumaimo (Japanese purple sweet potato, photo 4), espresso and After 8 mint, and 55.5 per cent chocolate. Prices start at $4.60 for a single scoop ($9.50 with waffle).

Drinks include affogato ($6.90), espresso ($3.90) and juice ($5.90).

Where: 01-99, 30 Kelantan Road
Open: 12.30 to 6pm (Monday and Sunday), 12.30 to 10pm (Wednesday and Thursday), 12.30pm to midnight (Friday and Saturday), closed on Tuesday
