RED BARON

The folks behind Artistry art gallery and cafe have opened a new bakery, cafe and bar at Gillman Barracks, which seats 12 indoors and 50 outdoors.

Signature offerings include the Smashed Avocado, Feta and Dukkah Spice Sandwich ($12) and the Lemon Meringue Tart ($7). All breads, cakes and tarts are baked in-house.

The Estrella Galicia, a pale lager beer from Spain, is available at $15 a pint, and a range of bottled beers, such as English brewery Siren Craft Brew's Soundwave India Pale Ale ($14), are available as well.

BAJA FRESH MEXICAN GRILL

This Mexican restaurant, which seats 36 indoors and 20 outdoors, opened this month.

Its signature dishes include the Baja Bowl ($10.95), rice, beans, grilled vegetables, onion, coriander and salsa with a choice of chicken or spicy chicken. Top up $1 to $4 for different meats such as pork and shrimp.

Or have a Breakfast Burrito, a flour tortilla with scrambled eggs, cheese and potatoes ($5.95). It costs $3 to add ham, sausage or bacon.

HAHA THAI

The owners of now-defunct seafood restaurant Ha Ha Ha Thai Seafood in Jalan Besar have opened an 88-seat Thai restaurant at Ngee Ann City.

Its chefs hail from southern Thailand and signature dishes start with the word "Haha" on the menu. They include the Haha Himalayan Snow-Baked Seabass ($49.80).

There are also daily specials such as grilled giant river prawns ($28.80) and the menu is subject to change depending on availability of produce and customers' feedback.

SABOTEN

Japanese restaurant Saboten opened its fourth outlet at Millenia Walk last Thursday. It seats 70.

Its menu is the same as its 313@Somerset outlet's. A new dish, offered at both outlets, is the Fried Oyster and Loin Katsu Gozen set ($25).

It comes with two fried oysters from Hiroshima, a pork cutlet, miso soup, chawanmushi and a free flow of Japan-imported rice and shredded cabbage salad.

Till May 31, four new dishes featuring fried red shrimp - such as the Fried Red Shrimp Combo Set ($22.50) that comes with shrimps, oysters and a crab croquette - will be offered exclusively at this outlet.

WHEAT

This cafe chain, which offers healthy dishes featuring soba and brown rice, opened its third outlet this month at International Plaza. It seats 44.

The menu is the same as its other outlets' and includes dishes such as the all-time favourite Salmon ($9, above), which features green soba tossed with yuzu sauce, grilled salmon and salad.
