SORREL

This 40-seat restaurant, named after a herb known for its fresh, lemony flavour, opened last week.

Executive chef Johnston Teo, 24, who has worked at The Tippling Club and Jaan, describes the restaurant as a cross between a bistro and a fine-dining restaurant.

It offers three- and five-course lunches ($45 and $88 respectively) and five- and seven-course dinners ($88 and $118 respectively), with vegetarian options available.

Offerings include roasted baby chicken, paired with Japanese maitake mushrooms, onion puree, charred onion, asparagus and chicken consomme reduction.

There is also a parsnip dessert, which features the root vegetable, white chocolate ice cream and salted caramel. It is paired with hazelnut cake and parsnip and white chocolate fudge.

BRATWORKS: THE GERMAN IMBISS

This German fast-food stand or imbiss in Raffles Place has opened another in Enggor Street. Both serve authentic German grilled sausages, currywurst and Flensburger, a German beer.

Offerings include the Currywurst Set ($18), which comprises a sausage served with curry ketchup, french fries and a Flensburger; and the Wurst Box Set ($30), for which customers can choose three sausages served with french fries and a Flensburger.

The Raffles Place outlet has just five seats, with two standing tables which take four people each, while the one in Enggor Street seats about 25.

MY DINING ROOM

This restaurant, serving Chinese cuisine paired with fine wines, opened on Jan 8.

It has a main dining hall, which seats 220, and eight VIP rooms, which seat 10 people each, but can be combined to take up to 60.

Prices start from $6.80 for appetisers, which include deep-fried beancurd cubes with salted egg and drunken chicken wings.

Other offerings include Alaskan king crab, which costs $18 for 100g; garoupa cooked with beer in a hot stone pot ($28) and stewed two-head Mexican abalone ($148).

LADY M CONFECTIONS

Lady M Confections has opened its third dessert boutique at Orchard Central. The 60-seater incorporates a first-level takeaway counter, a mezzanine-level dining area with four seating zones and an upper floor with cosy booth seats for couples and small groups.

Two items exclusive to the Orchard store are the Chocolate Mille Crepes - 20 paper-thin chocolate crepes layered with chocolate cream and topped with chocolate shavings ($9++ a slice); and the Apple Galette - puff pastry topped with cinnamon-scented apple slices under a sweet apricot glaze ($8++ a slice).

Also exclusive to this branch are the all-day breakfast specials such as M's Big Break, which comprises toasted muffins, poached eggs, turkey bacon, barbecued baked beans, mushrooms and chicken and cheese chipotle sausages ($20++).

WEDNESDAY CAFE

At this 40-seat cafe, customers pay for time spent, instead of food consumed.

The rates are $12 for the first hour and $5 for each subsequent half hour. Students (up to university level) pay $9.90 for the first hour and children aged four to 12 pay a per-entry price of $5.90.

Customers can help themselves to an all-you-can-eat dessert bar, which has offerings such as Speculoos cheesecake bars, nasi lemak cupcakes and banoffee pie.
