Peaceful dialogue, not protests

The protests in Hong Kong, now into their second month, have caused mayhem and shaken the stability of the territory. Can Singapore afford to have such gridlock in the heart of its Central Business District?

Our country prides itself on its stability. Without a hinterland to fall back on in times of adversity, Singapore is very much dependent on foreign trade and investments for economic growth.

Large-scale protests may thus bring undesirable outcomes for the population.

Perhaps what Singapore needs as society matures is dialogue with the Government to effect change and improvement, instead of protests in the name of "freedom of speech".
