10 most expensive luxury asset acquisitions revealed

NEW YORK - Luxury yachts are the most popular luxury asset acquisition, according to a new study conducted by research company Wealth-X.

The top 10 most expensive luxury assets also include a private island and a home, acquired by Oracle CEO Larry Ellison and Russian businessman Dmitry Rybolovlev respectively.

The other billionaires in the list include Russian tycoons Roman Abramovich, Andrey Melnichenko and Yury Shefler, UAE ruler Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and American business magnate David Geffen.

Below are the top 10 all-time luxury acquisitions:

1. The Azzam yacht (asset price: US$627 million [S$786.9 million]), acquired by Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahya (estimated net worth: US$17.9 billion).

2. Lanai Island, Hawaii (asset price: US$500 million), acquired by Larry Ellison (estimated net worth: US$46.4 billion).

3. The Eclipse yacht (asset price: US$485 million), acquired by Roman Abramovich (estimated net worth: US$12.4 billion).

4. The Serene yacht (asset price: US$330 million), acquired by Yury Shefler (estimated net worth: US$1.6 billion).

5. The A yacht (asset price: US$323 million), acquired by Andrey Melnichenko (estimated net worth: US$13.6 billion).
