PSLE results not the be-all and end-all

PSLE results not the be-all and end-all

I commend the pupils who did well in the Primary School Leaving Examination. Their results are definitely something to be celebrated ("Record 98.3 per cent qualify for secondary school"; last Thursday).

However, I also encourage pupils who have not done as well as they had hoped not to give up.

Everything happens for a reason, and pupils should use the experience to enrich their lives.

PSLE results do not define who we are.

There are many cases of Singaporeans who did not excel in this examination but have gone on to become exceptional people because of hard work and determination.

In terms of one's academic career, the PSLE is just a small part of a larger picture.

The key to a good future does not lie in one examination.

Even if one does not achieve one's desired grades, it is not the end of the world.

Instead, as a society, we should encourage our pupils to find their own passion and stick to it.
