Racing: Huka Falls can claim the Garden City Trophy

SINGAPORE - Thirteen starts, nine wins, one second and two fourths. That's Huka Falls for you - and he is not yet done.

The four-year-old by Align lines up in a 1,200m race on Sunday and he served notice of his winning intentions with a smart workout at Kranji yesterday morning.

Taken out by Joao Moriera, who has partnered him on eight of his winning jaunts, Huka Falls dazzzled in a 600m sprint in 35.5sec. That, after going one round at a steady canter.

Huka Falls won his last start in truly stylish fashion, taking the lead from the jump and never surrendering it for the entire 1,000m. Of course, he carried the confidence of the grandstand and paid just $7 for the win.

That win came after a five-month drought in which he - quite uncharacteristically - finished fourth twice in three outings.

In that other start prior to his last success, he finished second to Davide in the $200,000 Woodlands Handicap run over the 1,200m on the Polytrack.

However, and like any true champion, he put it behind him and went on to win his last start with plenty of authority.

Come Sunday, he will line up against a talented bunch in the $200,000 Garden City Trophy - a Singapore Group 3 race. There's Davide and Goal Keeper in the line-up but Huka Falls seems to have been granted plenty of favours.

Aside from having Moreira on the reins, the Lauric Laxon-trained runner will jump from that choice spot nearest the paint.

Those factors, coupled with the form he has shown on the training track, have me believing that Huka Falls could make it a pillar-to-post affair.
