Racing: Wo Ai Ninn works up a storm

Jose Verenzuela has a firstrate chance of landing a winner on Sunday when he partners WO AI NINN in Race 6.

Word from the track is that sevenyear- old is in rattling form and he showed it when he ran the 600m in 37.7sec Wednesday morning.

Trained by Desmond Koh for Good Ba Ba Stable, Wo Ai Ninn should easily see out the 1,900m he will have to cover on Sunday.

The son of High Chaparral showed that he was close to returning to the winner's enclosure when he ran third in a 2,000m event last month.

In that race, he came from a long way back but found the winner Max Velocity far too pacy.

He was then partnered by a claiming rider, apprentice TH Koh.

The switch to Verenzuela, who will be comfortable with the 53.5kg he has been asked to carry, could make him at least a length better.

Wo Ai Ninn has raced 24 times in a career which began in February last year.

He didn't show a glimpse of form in the first eight months of racing and started paying for his keep only in October when he finished third in a Class 5 event.

He ran third again in two of his next three outings and finally broke the duck on March 1, when he beat Give Me Strength in a 1,900m event on the Polytrack.

That day, he had champion jockey Joao Moreira in the saddle.

His form dipped after that success but the fact that he cashed in another cheque in his last start does seem to suggest that, with bottomweight and with Verenzuela on the reins, he's ready for another winning show.
