Schools in Malacca will re-open tomorrow as API drops

MALACCA - Schools in the state will operate as usual tomorrow as the Air Pollutant Index (API) had gone down to less than 200. As of 4pm, Malacca city's API stood at 127 while Bukit Rambai was at 148, both considered unhealthy levels.

Following the Education Ministry's circular, schools would only be temporarily closed should the API exceed hazardous levels (> 300).

Chief Minister Datuk Wira Idris Haron announced that schools would re-open tomorrow after being closed today when the state had recorded APIs higher than 300 yesterday.

Yesterday, Malacca city had recorded APIs of 357, 415 and 373 at 7am, 11am and 5pm respectively, while Bukit Rambai had recorded APIs of 334, 428 and 443 at those same times.

Meanwhile, state Education Department director Kasim Mohamad said while schools would carry on like normal, schools had also been advised to keep outdoor activities to a minimum to reduce students' exposure to the haze.
