SEA Games: OCBC dangles carrot for time trial cyclists

SINGAPORE- Local banking giant OCBC is offering Goh Choon Huat, Ho Jun Rong and Low Ji Wen - the Singapore riders in the OCBC Singapore Pro Cycling Team - cash bonuses for each medal they win during the biennial Games in Myanmar this month.

The trio will earn $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 each for gold, silver and bronze, respectively.

The OCBC pro cyclists will be joined by Darren Low and compete in the 100-km team time trial next Monday, as well as the 163-km road race two days later.

Said Koh Ching Ching, OCBC Bank's head of group corporate communications: "Five of our Pro Cycling Team riders will be competing at the Games.

"Choon Huat, Jun Rong and Ji Wen will be racing against our team's foreign riders from Malaysia - Loh Sea Keong, who has recently left us to join Team Argos-Shimano - and from Thailand, Phuchong Saiudomsin.

"This reward is therefore our token of encouragement and support for the Singapore riders."

Ji Wen, 24, said: "We are honoured that OCBC Bank continues to support us so strongly. We hope to bring home some medals and do Singapore and OCBC proud."

The cash bonus will be on top of the Singapore National Olympic Council's Multi-million Dollar Award Programme, which awards gold medallists at the SEA Games level to the tune of $15,000 for a team event.
