Mayday to perform at F1 S'pore Grand Prix

Taiwanese rock band Mayday will kick off this year's Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix weekend this September.

The quintet, who are slated to perform at the Padang Stage on Sep 19, will be the first Chinese rock band to headline at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

"Singapore holds a special place in our hearts and we are ecstatic to be performing for the very first time at this year's Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix," said Mayday in a statement today.

Dubbed as 'The Chinese Beatles' by The Washington Post, Mayday has released eight studio albums and sold over eight million records in total since their debut 15 years ago.

Over the years, they have received over 150 music awards, including Best Band for the Golden Melody Awards - Taiwan's version of the Grammy Awards - in 2001, 2004, 2009 and 2012, the Global Chinese Music Awards and the CCTV MTV Music Awards, among others.

The band recently concluded their United States and Europe leg of their Nowhere World Tour.

Fans can look forward to the band's chart-topping hits such as Gentla, Stubborn, Love ING and Don'ts Dont's at the Padang.

Singapore GP will be announcing additional artistes in the coming months.

Entry to the Mayday concert as well as all other entertainment in Zone 4 is included with any three-day 2014 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix ticket (starting from $228) or Friday Zone 4 Walkabout ticket, which will be priced at $68 after promotional period.
