As an April Fool's Day joke, radio and TV personality Rosalyn Lee decided to give Internet trolls a taste of their own medicine.

On Tuesday, visitors to her official Facebook page were greeted by three scathing status updates attacking the Lush 99.5FM DJ, seemingly by a "hacker".

The 34-year-old was called a "cradle snatcher" for dating a man 12 years her junior, "flat" and a "bona fide b****" on top of a slew of other insults.

But it was Lee who had the last laugh.

She later revealed in a video post that she was the troll - an Internet term for people who make inflammatory comments about others online.

"I feel that people are so cynical these days. All the things that were posted have all been said about me before. I thought April Fool's jokes are usually quite mild, so I decided to make it a bit more hardcore," Lee told The New Paper over the phone yesterday.

She said she "cringed" as she typed out the posts with words which "mean netizens" had previously used to describe her.

Her joke garnered mostly support from netizens who were quick to come to her defence.

Lee said the gag helped her separate true friends from foes.

"I thought it was nice that someone posted 'Even if you don't like her, it is a very mean thing to do'," she added.

Lee's prank was so well-played, even her colleagues and close friends were fooled.

Yes, even her boyfriend, 22-year-old undergraduate Justin Vanderstraaten, whom she started dating recently.

Said Lee: "He was in school, but was so worried and wanted to be home with me. When he came and saw me smiling, he realised it was a prank. He was a bit annoyed with me, but got over it."

Lee admitted she is a serial prankster but stressed the joke must always be on her.

"I love participating in April Fool's Day, but it's important to not hurt (others)," she said.
