Singapore Sports Hub (SSH) and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that sees SSH provide practical working experience and hands-on learning opportunities to all ITE students.

The partnership is the first of its kind to provide students with training and industry experience to develop competencies in sports and recreation management through a series of internship opportunities at the SSH.

This is aligned with SkillsFuture, as the close partnership will give students work experience and mentorship to enhance mastery of skills to prepare them for their careers. The enrolment of students already began in Oct 2014.

As part of the three-year agreement, SSH will work closely with ITE to identify and provide opportunities in event management, sports and recreation management, customer service, business, hospitality operations for ITE staff and students to participate in.

The MOU was signed by Mr Philippe Collin-Delavaud, Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Sports Hub, and Mr Bruce Poh, Director and Chief Executive Officer of ITE, and witnessed by Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth.

"We feel privileged to be forging this new partnership with ITE today. As a principal provider of career and technical education in Singapore, they are best placed to help us nurture talent for the local sports and recreation scene. We are excited to be welcoming ITE students to our campus to kick start their future career in this field, by providing them with on-the-job opportunities to learn from our very experienced teams which have worked on major events around the world, including the Youth Olympic Games, Formula One, National Day Parade, Women's Tennis Association and London 2012 Olympic," said Philippe Collin-Delavaud, Chief Executive Officer for the Singapore Sports Hub.

Bruce Poh, Director and Chief Executive Officer, Institute of Technical Education, said, "We are delighted to partner Singapore Sports Hub, to broaden the learning opportunities for our students. Being able to immerse themselves in the operations of a world-class sport and entertainment venue are invaluable for broadening their learning and future career development in this industry."

Roshafika Bte Roslan, who interned at the Singapore Sports Hub for 10 weeks in Oct 2014 said, "This is a great opportunity for us to bring what we learned in the classroom into real-life application. From my experience, I have grown in terms of skills, knowledge and personality. I will bring all the knowledge that I have learnt at the Singapore Sports Hub with me everywhere I go, as it is something important and useful for my future."

As part of the programme, SSH will be sponsoring bursary awards to students' at all three ITE Colleges, and will have management staff to guest lecture at ITE Colleges to share their knowledge and experiences.
