13,000 sent back annually

SINGAPORE- The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said an average of 13,000 foreigners have been repatriated annually for the past three years.

They include illegal immigrants, overstayers and those who have had their work privileges cancelled.

An ICA spokesman said that those who are repatriated will be given a notice to inform them that they have to obtain written permission from the Controller of Immigration if they wish to enter or reside in Singapore in the future. It is an offence for them to enter the country without it.

Total foreign workforce here, as of June this year, is just under 1.3 million.

Foreigners found guilty of it can be jailed between one and three years and fined a maximum of $6,000. They will also be removed from Singapore, said the ICA.
