14 developments to receive NParks' Skyrise Greenery Awards

SINGAPORE - A record number of 14 local developments will be recognised for their excellence in implementing sky gardens and vertical greenery at their establishments.

Organised by the National Parks Board (NParks), this year's Skyrise Greenery Awards received 77 entries - almost three times the number received in the last edition.

The 14 winners will be presented their awards on Nov 7, at the opening of the GreenUrbanScape Asia, Singapore's first regional landscape and urban greenery trade event, at the Singapore Expo.

Eight new categories have been introduced this year, including Outstanding, Excellence and Special Awards. Previously, only the top three developments were chosen for the awards.

"The jury had to make tough decisions as there were so many impressive skyrise greenery innovations. Revamping the Awards to introduce eight categories allows us to recognise more developments from a wider range of sectors," said NParks CEO Poon Hong Yuen in a statement.

Parkroyal on Pickering will receive the Outstanding Award for its unique "hotel in a garden" concept. NParks said the hotel stood out from other developments as skyrise greenery was integrated with its architecture, allowing guests to view and enjoy greenery from every room.

Winning three awards - Excellence Award, Special Award for DIY Project, and Special Award for Innovation - is Hougang Primary School, which impressed judges with its self-created green wall. Made of felt, acrylic board and staples, it keeps away weeds and encourages plant growth. It also serves as a learning tool and helps lower the temperature of classrooms.
