2 dead, 3 injured in Geylang fire

Two people died and three men were injured in a fire that broke out at 86A Geylang Lorong 6 early Friday morning, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in a statement.

SCDF said it was alerted to the fire at about 4am and dispatched two fire engines, three red rhinos, three ambulances and three supporting vehicles to the scene.

Firefighters brought out two people they found lying motionless in one of the rooms.

They were later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

SCDF extinguished the fire within 30 minutes.

Two men who sustained burn injuries were conveyed to Singapore General Hospital and another man who had a sprained right wrist was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
