SINGAPORE - Police have arrested two Chinese national men for allegedly stealing a 3.46 carat diamond ring worth more than $260,000 from a jewellery store in Orchard Road.
Staff at the store activated the panic alarm on Thursday afternoon when the diamond ring was found missing. Police arrested the suspects, both aged 48, near the store.
They will face court on July 5. If convicted, they could be jailed up to seven years and fined.
Retailers are encouraged to implement the following measures against shop theft:
a. Display posters or signage to deter shop theft;
b. Ensure a good line of sight with an appropriate shop layout;
c. Keep expensive merchandise in locked display cabinets;
d. Install CCTVs with a recording system; and
e. Deploy adequate security personnel to patrol the premises for increased visual deterrence
