2 more youths charged over fight outside Zouk on Sunday morning

SINGAPORE - Muhammad Zafir Abdul Alim, 17, and Khairul Nizam Ismail, 18, are accused of being part of an unlawful assembly. Together with Adam Abdul Rashid and Muhammad Ikram Kamsani, both 18, and Wira Andika Ibrahim, 19, they allegedly punched and kicked 22-year-old Desmond Ang Ming Sheng along Kim Seng Road at about 5am last Sunday. The latter three accused were charged in court on Tuesday.

Seven arrested for rioting

Police have arrested seven male suspects, aged between 17 and 19, for two cases of Rioting which occurred along Jiak Kim Street and Kim Seng Road on the 30 March 2014.

On 30 March 2014 at about 3.56am, Police responded to a case of fight along Jiak Kim Street and spotted the victim who reported of being set upon by a group of suspects that fled after punching and kicking him.

While officers from the Central Police Division were investigating into the fight, another case of fight was reported along Kim Seng Road at about 4.57am, where another victim was attacked by a group of suspects that fled prior to Police's arrival. Suspecting that the assailants could be the same for both the cases, the officers conducted extensive enquiries and looked into all the available CCTVs in the vicinity to establish the identities of the suspects. The officers' round-the-clock efforts were paid off when they arrested the suspects at various locations on the same day.

Five of the suspects will be charged in Court between April 1 and 2. Investigations against the remaining two suspects are ongoing.

The offence of Rioting under Section 147 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 7 years and shall also be liable to caning.

Commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Daniel Tan, commended his officers for their round-the-clock investigative follow-up resulting in the expeditious arrest of the suspects.

DAC Daniel Tan added that the Police take a serious view of fighting in public place where the safety and security of members of public may be at risk. He assured the public that no efforts will be spared in tracing and arresting the offenders to face the full brunt of the law.
