2015 O-level results: New record set as 83.8 per cent of students pass at least 5 subjects

SINGAPORE - Nearly all students who sat for the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level examination (O-level) in 2015 have been awarded certificates after achieving at least one pass.

In a statement on Monday (Jan 11), the Ministry of Education (MOE) said that 29,695 out of 29,723 candidates, or 99.9 per cent, passed at least one subject.

83.8 per cent, or 24,921 students, obtained at least five or more passes, surpassing the 83.3 per cent mark that had been set by the 2014 cohort.

According to The Straits Times, this is the best performance to date for the annual examination.

MOE also revealed that 88.6 per cent out of 3,950 Normal (Academic) candidates passed at least one subject.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,983 private candidates also took the exam, of which 90.5 per cent were awarded certificates after obtaining at least one pass.

The results were released to students at their schools at 2pm on Monday.

Students wishing to continue their studies in junior colleges, the Millenia Institute, polytechnics or the Institute of Technical Education will now be able to submit their applications, after the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) opened at 3pm today.

The JAE will be open until 4pm on Friday, Jan 15.

In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong congratulated students who received their results today. "For many of you, this marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Whichever path you choose, I wish you all the best as you start on your next adventure."
