24-year-old arrested for alleged theft of $900,000 in casino chips from MBS

SINGAPORE - A 24-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly stole casino chips and cash worth over $900,000 from the Marina Bay Sands casino.
In a statement on Wednesday (Jan 20), the police said that the man was arrested in Malaysia by officers from the Royal Malaysia Police.
The Casino Crime Investigation Branch of the police's Criminal Investigation Department began investigations on the case on Sep 2 last year. They had received a report from a casino patron, who said that his bag containing casino chips worth more than $900,000, cash totalling $10,000 and other valuables had been stolen.
The suspect was arrested in Malaysia pursuant to a warrant of arrest issued by the State Courts and handed over to the police.
If found guilty of theft, he may be jailed for up to three years, fined, or both.
Mr Tan Chee Hye, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigations and Intelligence), expressed his appreciation the Malaysian police for their assistance in apprehending the suspect.
"The Royal Malaysian Police has once again rendered their strong support to the Singapore Police Force. Both police forces will continue to work closely in the fight against criminals," he said.
