30-year-old man arrested for assaulting and robbing woman in Orchard

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly assaulting and robbing a woman last Friday (July 1).

The 38-year-old victim had made a police report on Friday morning, claiming that she had been punched and kicked by the suspect, who then made off with her sling bag.

He was a customer at the beauty salon in Orchard where she worked, police said in a news release on Sunday.

Officers from Tanglin Division, through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of CCTV footage, traced the suspect and arrested him at Raffles Place on Saturday at about 3.35pm.

Some of the victim's personal belongings were found in his possession.

If convicted of robbery with hurt, he could face a jail term of between five and 20 years and 12 strokes of the cane or more.
