307 commissioned as SAF officers

SINGAPORE - 279 Army and 28 Air Force officer cadets were commissioned as officers of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) on Sunday.

The commissioning parade, held at the SAFTI Military Institute, was reviewed by Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan, and attended by other Members of Parliament, senior SAF officers and Ministry of Defence officials.

Addressing the graduands at the parade, Mr Khaw highlighted the important role that the SAF officers undertake in inspiring a sense of commitment to National Service (NS) in their men.

"Be their guide, be their friend and be their mentor. Take time to listen to their concerns and challenges... Instil in them the belief that they can play a part in defending our home and our way of life," he said.

He added, "The strength of the SAF lies in its people, without which there will be no strong SAF."

The newly commissioned officers, who completed 38 weeks of rigorous training at the Officer Cadet School, will go on to assume command, instructional or staff appointments in the SAF.
