34-year-old man arrested for suspected molest at MRT

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 34-year-old man who is believed to have outraged the modesty of a female commuter at Tampines MRT Station.

On Aug 26, 2013, the 24-year-old victim was boarding the cabin at Tampines MRT Station when the man allegedly touched her inappropriately.

Although she did not confront him, she secretly took a photograph of him with her mobile phone.

Subsequently, she lodged a police report and handed his photograph to the Police.

Aided with the man's photograph and cameras installed at the station, officers from Bedok Police Division and Transcom conducted intensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations to apprehend him.

Their efforts finally paid off on Sep 10, 2013 at 7.07am when he was traced and arrested in the vicinity of Tampines Street 81.

Investigations against the man are on-going.

If convicted, he can face imprisonment which may extend to 2 years, or with fine, or with caning.

Commander of Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Alvin Moh, commended the officers for their good investigative follow-up which led to the arrest of the suspect.

DAC Alvin Moh also commended the female victim of her composure and assistance in providing the photograph of the suspect, which was instrumental in leading to the arrest of the perpetrator.
