4 men arrested for possessing airsoft guns

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested four men for possession of airsoft guns in two separate cases this month.

In the first case, two men aged 15 and 17 were arrested on June 11 at Blk 116 Yishun Ring Road for possessing an airsoft gun.

Investigations revealed that the 17-year-old suspect is believed to have purchased the gun from another 26-year-old man and had arranged to sell it to the 15-year-old on June 11.

The 26-year-old was subsequently arrested on June 12 in Choa Chu Kang. Two airsoft guns with pellets and gas refills were also seized.

In the second case, a 27-year-old man was arrested on June 8 along Jurong West Street 61 for possessing an airsoft gun.

Preliminary investigations reveal that he is also allegedly involved in a criminal intimidation case and other drug-related offences.

Investigations against all four suspects are ongoing.

Police said on Monday that airsoft guns or any other guns which shoot pellets using compressed gas are regulated as 'arms' under the Arms & Explosives Act.

No person, unless authorised by a Licence to Possess Arms, shall have in his possession or under his control any of such guns.

Under the Arms and Explosives Act, any person who, in contravention of this section, has in his possession or under his control any gun without license shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 for every such gun and to imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years.
