SINGAPORE - A total of 6,750 cartons of contraband cigarettes were found at the Tuas checkpoint this morning (Feb 3), the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said in a press statement.
The goods were hidden amongst assorted items such as foodstuff and plasticware in a 40-footer container.
ICA added that the container was driven by a 44-year-old Malaysian.
The potential duty and Goods and Services Tax evaded amounted to about $523,800 and $49,990 respectively.
Investigations are ongoing.
