7 arrested in connection with rioting case

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested seven men in connection with an earlier case of rioting on Oct 16.

The men, suspected to be immigration offenders, were nabbed during a Nov 4 enforcement operation conducted by the police and Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) at Yew Tee Industrial Estate.

They are also believed to be involved in the peddling of contraband cigarettes.

According to a police statement, 917 packets of contraband cigarettes were seized during the operation.

Police investigations are ongoing. If found guilty, the suspects could be jailed for up to seven years and caned.
