87 arrested in Geylang in 6-day crime blitz

Police have nabbed 53 men and 34 women, aged from 17 to 65, in a series of anti-crime operations in Geylang held over the past six days.

Eight men and two women were arrested for peddling contraband cigarettes and selling illegal sexual enhancement drugs. The street value of goods seized amounted to about $53,000, said a police statement today (March 27).

Thirty-four women were arrested for vice-related offences committed in residential properties while 41 men were caught for gambling.

The blitz, which covered the streets and hotels in the area well-known as a red-light district, was led by Bedok Division and involved officers from the Singapore Customs, Immigration & Checkpoints Authority and Health Sciences Authority too.

In the statement, Commander of Bedok Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Tan Tin Wee expressed his appreciation to all the agencies for a successful operation.
