Access to SPH websites affected

SOME users had difficulty accessing The Straits Times' website late on Sunday night as well as other Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) websites on Monday.

The sites affected include straitstimes.com and AsiaOne.

An SPH spokesman said its information technology division is investigating the matter and the company apologised for any inconvenience caused to users.

By mid-afternoonon Monday, the sites were fully accessible again.

Last Friday, the blogs section of the straitstimes.com website was attacked by a hacker calling himself the Messiah. It was the fourth time the individual, who claims to be part of the global hacker group Anonymous, had taken responsibility for attacking local websites since September.

The reason he cited was his unhappiness over a report that the newspaper ran about a threat allegedly made by the Anonymous group in a YouTube video.

The Straits Times has filed a police report on the intrusion.
