Accused to undergo psychiatric assessment

SINGAPORE - The 80-year-old man accused of murdering his daughter-in-law has been remanded at Complex Medical Centre in Changi for psychiatric assessment.

Char Chin Fah, who allegedly murdered Madam Ong Guat Leng, 54, between 9am and 10.04am on Thursday in their home in Block 440 Tampines Street 43, was ordered to go for the assessment by a district court on Wednesday.

Char, believed to be the oldest to be accused of murder in Singapore's recent history, will be assessed for three weeks. His case will be heard again in court on Sep 17. He will be defended by lawyer Ramesh Tiwary, who was engaged by Char's family after he was charged last week.

Char could hang if convicted.
