Acting PM Teo thanks those working the long CNY weekend with festive treats

SINGAPORE - Workers from PSA Marine and The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore were treated to festive goodies from Acting Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean earlier today.

Channel NewsAsia reported that Mr Teo and leaders from the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) were on hand at the PSA Marine's Mission Command Centre to personally give out red packets, oranges and cookies to more than 100 workers.

These workers include harbour pilots, marine crew, technicians and vessel traffic operators, Channel NewsAsia reported.

Mr Teo had also boarded a new tug boat at the Mission Command Centre, to have a look at the technological improvements made towards vessels.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who is currently on medical leave due to his recent surgery to remove his prostate gland, would traditionally visit those working in essential services on the first day of Chinese New Year, The Straits Times reported.

As Mr Lee is still recovering, Mr Teo made the trip in his place.

Mr Teo, who is Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister told The Straits Times: "Many of our workers continue to work during festive seasons to keep Singapore humming, and also to keep us safe and secure. So it's very important to come and appreciate the work that they're doing."
