AGC to get new Solicitor-General

Singapore - The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) will have a new Solicitor-General in the current Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court Lionel Yee Woon Chin come Feb 1, 2014.

Judicial Commissioner Yee, who will complete his one-year term as Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court on Jan 31, is taking over the current Solicitor-General, Mrs Koh Juat Jong SC, who is retiring.

According to the AGC statement, Ms Koh started her career in the Administrative Service from 1981 to 1986 at the Ministry of Finance. The President's Scholar was later appointed as a State Counsel in the AGC in 1989, not before going through various appointments in the Subordinate Courts and Supreme Court. She returned to the AGC in 2008.

Judicial Commissioner Yee held various positions in the AGC previously, including being appointed the Second Solicitor-General (Jan 2011 to Jan 2013) and the Director-General of the International Affairs Division (July 2008 to May 2012).

The Public Service Commission Overseas Merit Scholar graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Law degree from the University of Cambridge in 1988 and obtained a Master of Laws (International Legal Studies) degree from New York University, USA on a Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship in 1999.

"The time that I have spent on the Bench had enriched me professionally and will stand me in good stead when I return to the Attorney-General's Chambers to take on my new appointment," Judicial Commissioner Yee said.

In a statement released from the Supreme Court of Singapore, Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon noted that "the lessons learnt and the insights gained from serving as a Judicial Commissioner will serve [Judicial Commissioner Yee] well in his future work."
