Air quality in Singapore remains unhealthy on Monday

SINGAPORE - Hazy conditions persisted over Singapore on Monday, with the air quality remaining within the 'Unhealthy' range.

According to the National Environment Agency (NEA), as of 9pm the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) was between 133 and 166. The unhealthy range is between 101 and 200.

The three-hour PSI at 9pm was 249, worsening from a previous reading of 150 at 6pm.

NEA said in a statement that the 24-hour PSI for the next day is expected to remain in the mid to high sections of the "unhealthy" range, and may enter the "very unhealthy" range.

The agency had tweeted at 6pm that thundery showers were expected over many areas in Singapore in the evening and again in the pre-dawn hours, but added that this may only bring a temporary respite to the hazy conditions.

With the present air quality forecast, healthy people are advised to reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exertion, according to NEA's health advisory. The elderly, pregnant women and children should minimise outdoor activities, while persons with chronic lung or heart disease should avoid outdoor activities.
