Aircraft tow tug driver hurt

SINGAPORE - A worker was injured on Thursday morning after an aircraft tow tug that he was driving crashed into a pillar at Changi Airport Terminal 2.

The vehicle was not towing a plane at the time of the incident, which resulted in the closure of a section of the transit area.

The New Paper understands that the incident left the supporting pillar slanting and caused a depression in the floor of the transit area where many F&B outlets are located. A 900sqm section was closed and several food kiosks were affected, including Peranakan cafe Chinta Manis.

A spokesman for the Changi Airport Group said preliminary assessment found no immediate risk to the overall structure of the building.
