Alvivi in Splitsville

Alvivi in Splitsville

SINGAPORE- Notorious sex blogger Alvin Tan, 25, and his girlfriend Vivian Lee, 24, just can't seem to keep out of the news.

Even after they apparently broke up.

The Malaysian couple, jointly known as Alvivi, are having a very public break-up after Mr Tan announced the split on Facebook after accusing Miss Lee of cheating on him.

Which seems kind of ironic since their claim to infamy has been based on their sexual frankness, baring skin, heart and soul for the world to see.

In October 2012, Mr Tan, then an ASEAN scholar at the National University of Singapore (NUS), made headlines for posting explicit sex videos and photographs of him and Miss Lee in a blog.

Although Mr Tan was brought before an NUS board of discipline and suspended for a semester, he and Miss Lee went on to court more controversy with more sexual shenanigans and even religious insensitivities.

Their playing out their break-up in public has caused some netizens to wonder if it is just the latest publicity stunt concocted by the couple.

Mr Tan has a book called "Sex, Pork and Persecution" coming out soon and this could be a way to keep himself in the public eye, the netizens said.

Local psychologist Daniel Koh told The New Paper: "You can't blame them (the netizens) for thinking so.

"These two are quite open sexually, yet they are now breaking up over cheating? Naturally, with their track record, people will be wondering if all these reports are true."

Various contradictions and U-turns have emerged after Mr Tan posted this update on their Facebook page on New Year's Day: "Alvivi is going to split soon. Thanks for following us but this is the end. #ThatsIt."

This was after Mr Tan reportedly found out that Miss Lee had cheated on him with another man. He uploaded a photograph of the alleged third party that day.

SURPRISE

He also made a surprising declaration on his Facebook page: "Vivian Lee is not my girlfriend. I'm not sure where that comes from.

"Sure, we're close and all but we haven't ever been exclusive to each other, even until now."

Which, of course, raises the question: If they are not exclusive to each other, how then could Miss Lee cheat on him?

Then, as if to give her a taste of her own medicine, he announced on his Facebook page: "Replacement found."

This was accompanied by a photo of himself with a woman called Jane Tai, a lawyer whom he described as "amazing".

The picture can no longer be seen on Mr Tan's Facebook page after he uploaded another post yesterday to say: "I wish to clarify that Miss Jane Tai is an old friend of mine of whom I have great respect not only as a person but in her professional capacity.

"The picture that was posted was (taken) when a group of us went out for dinner. There is nothing between us at all and will never be.

"I have seen many comments implying sexual behaviour between us. I appeal to all of you to stop suggesting or implying this because my friendship with her is based on my respect for her.

"From the day that I have met her, she has been a dignified person and of great values and I will never indulge or even think of indulging of (sic) anything improper with her."

Neither Mr Tan nor Miss Lee could be reached for comment yesterday.

But after Mr Tan's break-up announcement on Jan 1, Miss Lee apologised to him on her Facebook page.

She wrote: "I am very sorry for hurting you, betraying your trust and letting you down. Yes, I admit that I may not be sexually exclusive to you (and I'm willing to change that) but I'm emotionally exclusive to you.

"Please forgive me and give me a chance to make it up to you."

But she also fired some salvoes of her own.

"You guys must know that he cheated on me, too. And that was during the exclusivity period and now he's being the hypocrite here trying to play the moral card," she wrote.

Vivian Lee is not my girlfriend. I'm not sure where that comes from. Sure, we're close and all, but we haven't ever been exclusive to each other, even until now.
