American Express donates $50,000 to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund

SINGAPORE - American Express has donated $50,000 to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF) today as part of its joint 90th Anniversary and Singapore's jubilee celebrations.

The multinational financial services corporation had pledged since January 50 cents to SPMF, up to a total of S$50,000 whenever card members shared their "Member Since Year" through a Facebook App (

20 American Express employees also spent the afternoon with 20 young beneficiaries of the SPMF at the Hougang Sheng Hong Student Care Centre.

Singapore Country Manager Mr Cheng Heng Chew was part of the contingent that helped each child to decorate a piggy bank as a visual representation of their saving goals.

After the activity, three of the best-decorated piggy banks were picked by a panel comprising SPMF Chairman Mr Han Fook Kwang, SPMF General Manager Ms Tan Bee Heong and Mr Cheng for an award.

"We are gratified to be the beneficiary of this special 90th-anniversary charity project and are thankful that American Express has taken the time to raise awareness of our mission to create a better future for the underprivileged children we help," said Mr Han.
