Antique gifts from actor Jackie Chan

This is one of four antique Chinese buildings donated by film star Jackie Chan, located in the midst of the gleaming modern architecture of the Singapore University of Technology and Design at its new Changi campus.

These structures will officially open on May 8, along with the rest of the campus.

Restoration work on the buildings - a pavilion, an opera stage, and two houses - by a team of 24 craftsmen from Suzhou, China, is almost complete. The buildings, from China's southern Anhui province, are said to date back to the Qing and Ming dynasties, around 370 years ago.

The pavilion and opera stage, in front of the hostel blocks, are already open to students and the public.

Chan, who also gave 12 old decorative beams for the university to display, wanted the buildings to be "liveable, usable spaces", The Straits Times quoted Mr Hoong Bee Lok, an architect involved with the project as saying.
