Apply for new passports early to avoid Sept holiday rush: ICA

SINGAPORE - The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has reminded Singaporeans to apply for new passports early.

This is to avoid the last minute rush during the upcoming school holidays during Sept 5 to 13, especially those who are planning to travel abroad during this period.

Many countries require a passport to be valid for at least six months as part of their entry requirements.

Singapore citizens whose passport has less than six months' validity are reminded to apply for a new passport to avoid facing any inconvenience.

Passport applications can be made online through the ICA website (http://www.ica.gov.sg) or at the self-service kiosks at the eLobby@ICA.

Applications can also be made by post, deposit boxes or over the counter.

Successful applications will be notified by post to collect the new passport once it is ready.

Longer waiting time for passport services is to be expected during busy periods, such as on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, school holidays, eve of public holidays and the day after.

New passports can be collected over the counter at ICA Building, at a self-service machine there or at selected SingPost outlets.

New passports are valid for five years.
