Attacker grabs man's knife and kills him

SINGAPORE - He always carried a knife with him when he went for his morning walk. That way, he felt he could protect himself from criminals.

But on Wednesday morning, when Mr Ang Cheng Hoo (inset), 64, went for his walk in Penang, Malaysia, the knife was turned on him, The Star reported.

An assailant snatched it from him and slashed him to death.

Mr Ang's body was discovered sprawled by the roadside at about 6.30am, about 30m from his apartment, by a security guard.

A witness claimed that she had heard a commotion between Mr Ang and another person who could be known to him.

Penang Hospital senior consultant forensic pathologist, Dr Bhupinder Singh, said Mr Ang died of injuries to the neck.

He said a post-mortem found that there were three slash wounds on the neck and a stab wound on the abdomen.

Penang CID chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Kesah said they had temporarily ruled out robbery as Mr Ang's wallet and mobile phone were not stolen.

He said there were many drug addicts loitering in the neighbourhood and it was dark then.

"We found the knife, believed to be the murder weapon, next to the body.

"So far, we have yet to establish the motive," he said at the scene.

Mr Mazlan said police had recorded statements from several witnesses and the case had been classified as murder.
