Back scrub and bath for Raffles

SINGAPORE - The statue of Sir Stamford Raffles got a good scrubbing by workers Dhaloar Hossain, 26 (in green), and Thangavel Mayavan, 28, yesterday.

The statue of the founder of modern Singapore is located along the north bank of the Singapore River where he was believed to have landed.

Also getting a wash are sculptures of the People of the River series, along the Singapore River promenade.

They include the sculpture of five naked boys jumping into the river for a swim.
