Bicycle thieves caught after alert by member of public

SINGAPORE - A call from a member of public led police to arrest three suspects aged between 26 and 30 for bicycle theft.

The three men were seen loitering suspiciously near Blk 679, Choa Chu Kang Crescent on Sept 16 at about 4am.

Officers from Jurong Police Division managed to detain two of the suspects near Blk 678, Choa Chu Kang Crescent.

The last suspect, who fled before the police's arrived, was subsequently arrested in the vicinity of Blk 679, Choa Chu Kang Crescent.

Three bicycles in their possession, believed to be stolen, were found by the police.

The three suspects will be charged in court on Sept 17 for the offence of Theft, under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.

Any person convicted of the said offence shall be liable for a fine, imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, or both.

Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Lim, commended the member of public for his alertness and his officers' prompt response and actions which led to the arrest of the suspects.

He added that this arrest represents yet another illustration of the strong partnership between the community and the police in fighting crime together.
