Upset after he was dumped by his girlfriend, a 19-year-old man and his group of friends attacked her new boyfriend in public as shoppers watched the fight at Causeway Point on Sunday.
Lianhe Wanbao reported that the man and his friends were armed with wooden poles and pounced on the new boyfriend when he appeared at the smoking area outside the mall. Apparently the former had been harassing him at his workplace at the mall.
When the girl heard about the showdown on Sunday, she rushed to the mall with her mother and friends. She tried to intervene but later felt unwell, and had to be sent to the hospital after she complained of giddiness.
Earlier, her ex-boyfriend used his hands to push her several times using both hands despite being told to stop by her friends. He also yelled at them, reported Wanbao.
The trouble escalated with the new boyfriend getting involved. The police said a man had been arrested for criminal intimidation.
