Biker, 69, dies after collision with lorry

An elderly rider died yesterday morning after his motorcycle collided with a lorry.

The accident happened at the junction of Lavender Road and Kallang Bahru at about 10am, a police spokesman said.

The 69-year-old man was rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), where he later died, the spokesman added.

Undertaker Roland Tay, who was in his office near the scene at that time, said he heard a bang and headed out to investigate.

At the road junction, he saw the motorcyclist lying face down on the road with blood around him.

"I tried calling out to him and tapping him but there was no response. I was worried for him and immediately called the police," he said.

The lorry driver, 40, told Shin Min Daily News that he was making his delivery rounds when he heard a loud sound coming from the back of his vehicle.

He said he got out and saw the elderly rider lying on the road.

A Singapore Civil Defence Force spokesman said they dispatched an ambulance to the scene and took the rider, who suffered serious injuries, to TTSH.

Police are investigating.
