Boy in 8-storey death fall

SINGAPORE - He died after being taken to KK Women's and Children's Hospital.

The mother had left the house to pick up her 11-year-old daughter at the first floor of her block at Kovan Melody condominium when the tragedy occurred.

When she returned to the apartment, her son was nowhere to be seen.

Some residents reported seeing the mother frantically running downstairs crying, reported Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao.

Residents said a Korean family lived in the eighth-storey three-bedroom unit.

It is understood that the boy was having a nap when the mother left him, and that he had fallen from the bedroom window.

A 50-year-old resident of the condominium, who was not named by Wanbao, said she saw the mother crying and carrying her bleeding

son to the entrance of the condominium.

Shin Min Daily News quoted a 35-year-old maid who saw the incident: "When I went downstairs, I saw many police cars and the mother crying.

"The boy was carried into the ambulance, and the mother and her daughter followed inside."

A police spokesman said they were informed of the incident at 4.05pm and that the toddler was found lying motionless at the first floor.

A Singapore Civil Defence Force spokesman said: "A male toddler was taken to KK Women's and Children's Hospital. The patient was unconscious."

The boy later died.

Police are investigating the unnatural death.
