Boy sees dead man as he looks out of his window

When nine-year-old Teo Wen Bin looked down from his flat yesterday morning, he saw something he would never forget - a dead body lying in blood and without trousers.

The schoolboy told The New Paper: "I was so shocked because I've never seen a dead body and I didn't dare to stare at it for too long."

The body was that of a 44-year-old man who was found dead at the foot of a staircase leading to Block 208 at Corporation Road.

TNP understands that he suffered facial injuries and was clad in just a T-shirt and underwear.

He was also bleeding profusely from the back of his head and mouth, reported Chinese evening daily Shin Min Daily News.

Wen Bin, who lives on the 22nd storey of that block, recounted: "He was lying face-up with his arms outstretched. He looked like he wasn't wearing any pants."

Another Block 208 resident, who wanted to be known only as Madam Ang, said she saw many police officers and onlookers when she returned home from breakfast at 9am.

Madam Ang recounted: "There were at least 10 officers and many people were crowding around the cordon tape. The area cordoned off was the size of three street football courts."

She added that one of the onlookers had encountered the man while he was still alive earlier that morning.

Madam Ang said: "A woman in her 70s told me that she saw him staggering towards her at about 5am. He was asking her for help and started removing his jeans. That was when she ran away and called the police."

The police said they were alerted at 5.35am and officers found the man lying motionless on arrival.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force sent an ambulance to the scene, and its paramedics pronounced the man dead.

Shin Min Daily News reported that a pair of belted jeans, along with a pair of red-and-black slippers, were found 1m from the body.

Other items found at the scene included a black wallet and a blue reusable bag with hangers, pegs and a handwritten note inside. Taufiq Aziz, a Block 211 resident, said police officers spent hours collecting evidence at the scene.

"They were there from morning to noon and left with more than five bags of evidence," the 12-year-old said.

When TNP visited the scene yesterday afternoon, we found several dried blood stains on the pavement, the largest of which was roughly the size of two palms.

This is the second dead body found in the Jurong area in as many days. The body of a 64-year-old woman was found floating in Jurong Lake on Sunday.

Police have classified both cases as unnatural deaths and investigations are ongoing.
