A young boy's foot got trapped in the first-storey escalator in the National Library at about 6pm yesterday, causing the escalator to stop.
Witnesses told The New Paper on Sunday that the boy was travelling down the escalator with his parents when his foot got caught at the bottom.
According to witnesses, members of the public rushed to help the five-year-old boy.
By the time officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force arrived, his foot had already been freed.
