Singapore yesterday welcomed His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hjh Saleha, who arrived for a three-day state visit to the city-state.
Accompanying Their Majesties were HRH Prince 'Abdul Malik, HRH Prince 'Abdul Wakeel and HRH Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah.
Also in the Royal entourage was HRH Princess Hjh Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The state visit starts today with a ceremonial welcome at the Singapore Presidential Palace, where Their Majesties will meet President Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and their spouses.
His Majesty is also expected to hold talks with Singapore's former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.
The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that His Majesty's visit provides an excellent opportunity to review existing bilateral cooperation and explore new areas for both countries.
"Singapore and Brunei cooperate closely in many areas including defence, finance, education and health," the press statement read.
Upon touching down at the VIP Complex of Changi International Airport, Their Majesties were welcomed by Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore Minister for Environment and Water Resources and Minister-In-Attendance to His Majesty; and Singapore High Commissioner to Brunei Jaya Ratnam and spouse. Their Majesties were then taken on a special motorcade to the Grand Hyatt Hotel, where they will be residing throughout the three-day visit.
Prior to Their Majesties departure, a Doa Selamat was read by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Hj Abd Aziz Juned at Istana Nurul Iman. Present to bid farewell to Their Majesties at the Sultan's flight hangar in Rimba were HRH Crown Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; HRH Paduka Seri Pg Anak Isteri Pg Anak Sarah; HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade; HRH Prince Hj Jefri Bolkiah; HRH Princess Hjh Nor'ain; HRH Princess Hjh Amal Nasibah and other Royal family members.
