Brunei Sultan sends N-Day message to S'pore President and PM

Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah called on former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew at the Istana.

BRUNEI - His Majesty, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei has sent a congratulatory message to the President of the Republic of Singapore, His Excellency Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam and the Prime Minister, His Excellency Lee Hsien Loong on the 48th National Day of Republic of Singapore.

His Majesty expressed his pleasure at welcoming His Excellency Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam and his wife to Brunei earlier this year and was confident that His Excellency's visit, as well as the frequent exchanges at all levels, had further strengthened the special friendship that had been long enjoyed by the two countries.

In his message to His Excellency Lee Hsien Loong, His Majesty greatly appreciated the many years of warm friendship and close cooperation enjoyed by the two countries and looked forward to renewed opportunities to strengthen the much-valued bilateral ties and important regional cooperation.

In concluding his message, His Majesty extended his best wishes and continuous prosperity to the President and Prime Minister as well as the people of the Republic of Singapore.

Similarly, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei, congratulated K Shanmugam, Singapore Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Law, on the same occasion.

His Royal Highness said: "I warmly congratulate your government and people on Singapore's continued and much-valued contribution to regional and international affairs during the past year."

HRH also said that he looked forward to the Brunei-Singapore exchange visit in Singapore in October and thanked the Singapore minister on his support during Brunei's ASEAN chairmanship this year.
