Burglars take all - even biscuits

MALAYSIA - A business man who was away celebrating Hari Raya last week returned home to find it broken into and with about RM1.5 million (S$582,000) worth of valuables stolen.

Mr Abdul Salam Ahmad and his family, who are from Kajang in Malaysia's Selangor state, were visiting Sungai Petani for a week and found out about the break-in when they returned on Sunday, the New Straits Times reported.

He recounted on Tuesday: "They (the burglars) left the house in a total mess. They ransacked every room.

"Even our 100kg safe proved to be no hindrance for them, as they prised it open." Mr Abdul Salam lost about RM1.5 million in valuables, including jewellery, nine watches and 15 designer handbags.

"Three of nine watches that they took were limited edition, costing RM200,000 each," he revealed.

To make things worse, the burglars ate all the Hari Raya biscuits and defecated in his house, the New Straits Times reported.

The burglars are believed to have entered Mr Abdul Salam's house by climbing over a wall and opening the sliding door.

Though his house is fitted with a security alarm, it was not activated. The family's security guard was on leave that day.

Mr Abdul Salam said: "This is the first time that the house has been broken into in the last seven years.

"I am grateful that no one was at home when the incident occurred."
