Cabby in the dock over 'date' with passenger

Instead of taking his female passenger home as requested, a taxi driver took her to a remote place for a "date", Shin Min Daily News reported.

The 42-year-old passenger - who was not named - said the driver, who is in his 30s, picked her up from a nightclub in the wee hours on Monday.

He chatted with her non-stop, she said, and while they were on the Central Expressway (CTE), he said he had alcohol in his taxi and suggested that they go for a drink.

He then drove her to Yishun Dam without her consent. Worried that he might harm her, she decided to alight and play along. Meanwhile, she messaged her friends for help.

"He took out two bottles of beer, but I took only a sip," she told Shin Min.

Later, he put his arm on her shoulder and pulled her cheek towards him, she said. She blocked him with her hand and insisted on going home.

She made a police report, and the driver is due to be charged today.
