Catch samba, hip-hop breakdancers at Club Street

SINGAPORE - This Saturday night, Ann Siang Hill and Club Street will come alive with colour and sound for the inaugural Heineken Cities Festival.

At this first-of-its-kind Singapore street festival, expect roving performances from samba dancers, drummers and hip-hop breakdancers.

Revellers can also groove to thumping music spun by renowned London producer-singer-songwriter DJ Rae. They can also witness a live mural painting by local illustrator Mindflyer, who will create an escapism-themed artwork inspired by the iconic canals of Amsterdam.

Mr Rene de Monchy, head of marketing at Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore, told M: "Heineken Cities Festival embodies the best of the world's great metropolises.

"It has elements of New York (hip-hop dance), London (DJ music), Amsterdam (mural), Shanghai (jazz dance) and Rio de Janeiro (samba dance) in a single location."

He added: "It celebrates the cosmopolitan nature of Singapore as a melting pot of cultures. It also calls on urbanites to embark on new adventures."

The festival also marks the launch of the new Limited City Edition Heineken bottles.

The six bottles are named after New York, London, Amsterdam, Rio de Janeiro, Shanghai and Singapore.

These will be available throughout the night, as merry-makers soak in the vibrant atmosphere.

DJ Rae, who has done sets at Pacha Festival in Amsterdam and iTunes Festival in the UK, is all psyched up for the event as it will be her first time in Singapore.

"I've heard so much about Singapore, especially the food! I can't wait to be there and experience it for myself," she told M.

Known for her melodic house tracks, she promised to spice things up on Saturday with "fresh, new and exclusive" numbers.

She said:"My set will be imbued with my own songs and live vocals. I'll also bring a little vibe from each of the countries we are celebrating."
